Black and Blue, an exhibition presented as part of The Catskill Arts Initiative and the Greene County Council, Masters on Main Street in Catskill, NY puts works on view by Hilary Doyle, Anthony Giannini, Rachel Klinghoffer, Francisco Moreno, Kimo Nelson, Art Peña, Michelle Rawlings, Astrid Toha, Page Whitmore and Bruce Wilhelm; the RISD MFA Painting candidates of 2012.
They met one year ago, and have formed a tight-knit, supportive, and honest working community. Each artist has a distinct voice and visual vocabulary using a range of materials and methods to produce reflections on materiality, social awareness, satire, and history. A sense of endurance links the work of these ten artists. The prevailing palette of the show is black and blue, two subtle, quiet colors. Rather than announce themselves, black and blue observes and reflects. There is a secretive, mysterious quality to the works in this show, alluding to the presence of hidden ruminations on the complicated world around us.
